Well, it may not be the forum directly but some malware you have on your computer. If it's happened more than once, I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling your browser. But, I'm not much of an IT person so this is... just a suggestion. I'll poke Lith and link him the thread, as he's an actual IT guy. Hey may have some more insight on the matter.
I have noticed that proboards changed the way they're doing adds this year. Some of them really slow down this specific web page and I dislike it to a great degree.

Do you remember what page on the forum you were on? I'll see if I can find it on the page you were on at the time and check the logs just in case something fishy is going on. Outside of that, what parth said could be true. You should run a malwarebytes scan (really good scan which will find 99% of the stuff that antiviruses won't) and reset your browser settings after running the scan to be sure. In a majority of cases it's not the actual website that causes these downloads, but something that's hijacked the browser, which is why I'm covering both bases. If you can give me the page you were on and it was something on the site that'll help. You can download malwarebytes here (they have a paid version but the free version is fine): www.malwarebytes.com/It's pretty straight forward, just install it, launch and run it. Side note in case something else gets downloaded when you go to download it, the installer should be "mbam setup" or something along those lines.

This happened to me on mobile twice. Both times I was under the impression that I had clicked on the advertisement at the top of the page, causing a pop-up. It's not uncommon for pop-up ads to have scripts to run automatic downloads. Kerguelen, could you have clicked an ad at all?

But it's because I either had, the page kept open, other pages open. Or I keep revisiting the site, so eventually I got some small virus or (w/e hijacked the page) that re-directed to a page or a random Google Play game.
And I do second @lithillian and G.D.
