Hey guys,
I've been having these frequent headaches of late, some have turned into migrains. Usualy I have them almost 5-6 out of a week. I'd say it was because of the heat (being hot aussie summer) and I'm going to go to the doctors to figure out if thats why. In the mean time I was wondering if anybody else experiances this and how you would cure it. I dont take main killers too much because when I do they only manage to dull the pain a bit, I havent found a strong enough one to cure my headaches yet.
(I try to stay cool, under the fan or in water as much as possible but I still manage to get a headache a lot in summer anyway.)

Get some dark shades to lessen eyestrain. Overillumination is a legitimate thing and can give you eyestrain and headaches.
Aside from that, wear the lightest clothes possible, cool water, lots of fan cooling or even airconditioning if accessible.

Dark rooms, lots of water, and try to not let there be too much light is all I can think of. -Rail

@seperah
Ah, headaches... I know a lot of people that got a lot of headaches (myself included). I know that headaches are a symptom of (but not limited to) stress, tension, anxiety, coffee consumption, eyestrain, hunger, sinus, muscle tension, and use of alcohol.
I also know that headaches could be a sign of a more serious sign of a underlying health problem. Sometimes, it could be something to do with what you're eating and your body is reacting negatively to it. You may also be dehydrated. Now, a big indicator to know if you're not dehydrated if your urine is actually clear, not yellow. The darker it is, the more dehydrated you are.
But, there's a lot of more symptoms out there and I'm not sure what you have exactly. It may be that time of the season where your sinuses are acting up or it may be that you're not eating as much. -shrugs- If you come back from the doctor's and they don't have a clear indication of what you have (and just give you pain medication on a whim just to stop it from hurting), let me know what your symptoms are and I'll try to help you.
One interesting example is where my b/f actually got frequent headaches and usually they didn't stop. He's gone to the doctor's plenty of times-- they couldn't identify what it was and just threw him medication at him to stop/dull the pain. Then, I started to do a bit of research and brainstormed to what the reason why the headaches kept on coming. I finally found the cause: my b/f actually got headaches from not wearing his glasses regularly. So, he wears his glasses more often and the headaches goes away xD. No pain meds needed-- he just needed to put on his glasses

Thanks to everyone. Your advice is really good and some things I would have never thought of. I've made an effort to find my sunnies (shades) and am going to make a habit of wearing them while I'm out. @mist Thats awsume what you did for your bf I was really impressed and interested reading your post. Mmm my headaches could be caused from eyestrain, heat and/or hunger. For some reason atm I'm almost always hungry. But a few weeks later I will barely be hungry at all. I thought about it but I think I'm pretty hydrated. It's also the time of year my allergies to dust and my hay fever are at worst. I'll keep everyone posted and hopefully I'll get a reason behind the cause of my headaches. Thanks

@seperah
Thanks for letting me know what your symptoms are. I'll do my best in laying it out in a good order.
Eyestrain:: You're using your eyes a lot. If you have glasses or contacts, make sure you put 'em on more often. You could also be around the computer or the TV too much. Let your eyes rest longer (not necessarily sleep, but that can work too).
Heat:: If you're hot, it might because you might have an infection such as a fever. A good way to help those go down is apply something cold (such as an ice pack or a cold, wet wash cloth) If you don't have an infection, you actually would be dehydrated. (Just drink more water )
Hunger:: If you only eat three meals a day, I recommend that you eat smaller meals between meals. Also, increase your protein and carbohydrates intake.
Allergies/hayfever:: For allergies, apply self pressure to the area and massage it to ease the tension. Lean your head forward a bit as well when you do it. Applying heat to your sinuses with a hot washcloth is a good idea as well.
Anyway, that's what I got for you and I hope that any of the treatments help

@mist I gave you karma because your help is amazing I am around technology alot and usualy looking at screens too much mainly out of boredom. I'll do what you said and take some time away from it. Your probably right when it comes to the heat. Might take a cold bath and drink more definantly. I'll try the massage technique around my nose and eyes. Ahh it feels really relaxing I'll still keep you updated. Thanks for your help. +1 karma (hope I didnt miss use it)

This. I used to get horrible migraines as a kid, and I discovered through trial and error that it was caffeine related. When I significantly cut back on the caffeine, the headaches went away. I've also experienced sinus headaches, or some due to eye strain. My current mate has had migraines for most of his life, and doctors have never found anything wrong with him. A chiropractor told him it was a pinched nerve in his neck causing them, and seeing the chiropractor seemed to help. I personally think stress and depression could be contributing.

RailaybaraThe suggestions from everyone has been helping but I find that as much as I try to stay cool, drink as much as I can and eat well enough not to be hungry I still get them. Maybe its because of a more underlying problem and I cant afford to the a doctor for another 3 weeks. Im gonna have to put up with it till then.

@seperah You're body takes a while to adjust, that could be it. When I started with lack of sleep it messed me up so bad, but now I'm used to being in a hole of exhaustion...you're changing habits, therefore you're changing the way your body used to do things. And if it doesn't get better by that time I would say, yes go to the doctor. -Rail

@thread/Rail - I finaly saw the doctor and got medication. Unfortunatly after my boyfriend saw the same dfoctor about a different issue we quickly learned he was a quack. Ive decided to see a different gp instead next time. The doctor I saw gave me an expensive medication called Replax. Two small pills in one packet. He said it would be very strong but he didnt say it would cause me more pain. Within ten minutes of taking one of the pills (wich he told me only to take when the migrains are really bad) my headache was gone but withing almost half an hour I was laying face down on my bed almost in tears at the pain it was causing me.
The pills were too strong and they were causing me a burning/twisting sensation along the mucles in my neck, shoulders and along my spine. You know the feeling when you have a cramp, or someone is giving you a chinese burn, the pain felt like a mix of that but intensified. After almost 50 minutes with the pain still gushing through my neck and back my arms, hands and face felt numb.
We had to go to the hospital that night to get tests done for my boyfriend and only then wich was about 2-3 hours later had the pain subsided. For the first half and hour I felt almost paralized with pain. I threw out the medication after that. I'd rather put up with the headaches I know so well them trial that orange pill again.
The temperature has dropped a lot now that its autum and my headaches are slowly subsiding. I think for the winter if I get any more headaches wich I think will be unlikely I will try some natural remedies and see how they work out before next summer.

@seperah Ouch I'm sorry to hear that, you would think doctors could be trusted. I'm not good with medicine so I guess I couldn't really help much either. I'm sorry that we don't know what to say. -Rail

@rail I think that doctor should be revised by the head gp or someone high enough up the medical shain to assess if he resally should be doing this job. I dont want anyone else to have to be put through crap. And dont be sorry Im glad you still took the time to come back to this post. It has been a while since I posted it.

@seperah The problem is I don't see anything like that happening soon, unless they actually didn't know if would be too strong. Haha, I try to check the forums every once in a while. -Rail

Although that doctor is obviously an idiot, it could be a good idea to get tested to see why the medicine caused those problems. That could be an indication of something being very wrong, and I wouldn't let it go until I found an explanation. If you do get testing, I'd start by testing for a severe allergic reaction.

@seric
The thought that it could be an allergic reaction crossed my mind but I wasnt so sure. It dosent say the ingerdiants on the packet but I'll take it to a gp I know I can trust (lives an hour away lol) and see if he can figure it out. Thanks Seric
