And it´s me again^^´´
Recently I read about Kins talking about their Guides and Totems. Now to make it short :
How do you find out what your Guide and Totem is ? How can you be sure it´s not your kin/ a part of your soul ?
Greetings Seth

To be honest, your Guide, or Totem, is pretty much linked to your soul through some means anyway. I believe Guides have a very special connection to their charges. Totems and Guides are pretty much the same thing in most cases. Both can be anyone, or anything, but are usually beings from some time in your past, or connected to some part of your future.
Your Guide or Totem should 'feel' different to yourself, and you will know by the way they present themselves to you, should they choose to do so. Not everyone has a Guide, or a Totem. And I dont think you usually have both. Because there's really no need to.

1. thanks for the reply 2. do you have a guide/totem ? 3. I´ve read somewhere that guides may change, since there is a specific guide for specific stages of life, would you say that you could agree with that through your experience (personal or told by others) ? ...for days now (since I did a little research on the totem subject) this subject had been floating in my subconsciousness and somehow when I consciously think of it, the first thing that comes to my mind is the image of a wild boar roaming through a forest....a sign ? The wild boar you see means different things to different cultures, and depending where you 'are from' it may be some kind of sign. For some he is a proud, intelligent animal that doesn't shy easily from danger. But for others, like myself, the boar symbolises irrationality, stubbornness, and the will to run headlong into danger. When you know where you are from spiritually, you will know which sign, if any, appeals to you. I believe different people experience different circumstances with Guides. Some change as you grow and experience, some may be destined to stay with you 'forever'. Again, it depends on the individual, and it depends on the purpose of the Guide. I have a guide myself yes, though I don't name him often. He is the brother of Heru, and he is a jackal headed man. He will stay with her, I should think. Because they are related by family, not just by spiritual bond. He sometimes shares his wisdom with me, for that I am grateful.

Well, I agree with you on the latter definition of boar and also want to add greedy and strong, yet dangerous. But it's also something that would prtect family till death. That's how I see a boar. Since I was little we always went to a place where you could feed wild boars behind a fence, that was when I always felt a strong connection and as if I could almost understand them.
But now that you mention the Jackal : when I first saw Jaspar, my Werwolf - also one of the only scenes so far - on his right standing tall on both legs (Jaspar was crouching low on all fours) was a Anubis like (you could describe him jackal like) figure that was standing more in the darkness, watching me, almost like a guide. I thought of him as a fellow werewolf, maybe a friend of Jaspar's....

For years I believed myself to have no guide nor any totems. Until quite recently my guide showed herself to me. I think the experience you describe here is very interesting, but I suggest you do not jump to conclusions. If you have a guide he/she will show him/herself eventually. Do not rush things like this. I must say that I know next to nothing about the nature of totem animals. But your connection to the boars and the Anubis-like figure definitely deserve some pondering.

don´t worry, I´m not one to jump quickly to any conclusion I´m just throwing them into the room for anybody to think about it But when Re Harakhti mentioned the jakal heade man I just had to think of this little scene again and thougth this might be important, as I never really pondered about this other person before^^´´

Well you may, in your discoveries, come across images of other Therians/Otherkin you once knew, if you lived before. Sometimes the Guides aid us in remembering vague images from our past.
I know myself that when I first dreamed of my Spiritual Mother, my Guide and my family became properly visible to me, as if i'd re-lived a small fraction of my previous life in order to come to terms with my 'family'. But with me, as I say, it was the mother that brought about the reappearance of my Guide.
Some Therians are New, spending their first time as a person. In that case He may be someone you are likely to meet in a later life, or maybe as a Therian himself in this one. I would definitely hold on to that possibility.

Over the years, I've gleaned many animal and spirit totems... I'm up to ten that I know of, though some are stronger or more 'connected' than others. I've been thinking a lot about them lately, so it's nice to see a forum post about it. For me, they are sort of like good old friends, or perhaps brothers and sisters. Whenever I see a picture of one (or a real one, when possible) of my totems, even though it's not 'mine', I feel really happy inside. I can't really explain that feeling. I felt this way about certain animals before I knew about totems at all. Now I use that feeling as one of the many guides to learn about my totems and why I have them. For me, the totems are individuals of a specific species (a Lammergeier, for example) but that 'special' feeling extends to all members of the species. I only recently 'awoke' and realised that there is an actual reason all these guys were hanging around me all the time. *smile* I was shocked for a moment, but it immediately felt *right*. As soon as I had that vision I knew my life would never be the same. And it hasn't been. I feel more myself than I ever have. I don't know how to really explain how I know which animals are my totems. All I can say is the lame old 'when you see, you will know.' :/ I still don't really know *why* all these spirits and totems come and poke little old me, though. XD I have no idea if any of this helps...

I do not have a guide or a totem, so you don't have to have one.

I do not have a guide or a totem, so you don't have to have one. Seconded. It also stands to reason that if you have no need for spiritual guidance at the present time, you have no pressing need for a totem/guide. I've never had a totem/guide, but I have something similar. It's possible that having it in fact means that I have less of a need for a guide/totem.

For as long as i know i never felt something or someone that was on my side, helping me or guiding me to find my answers. I don't think i have one now because i've been aware of my therianthropy for quite a long time now, and to suddenly discover a guide will be quite confusing. Everyone is different of course.

i really do love the subject of totems/guides
as a apprentice shaman, i'm still learning the full power of totems/guides
My totems are: a young black wolf, who is normaly dictated by a very old wite wolf (i get the feeling he's 'learning' to be guide, i see less and less of the 'before time' old wolf, and moreand more of him)
A wild hare, she is my feminine spirit guide, she is there to remind me of the weakness and powers of being female.
'guest' totems now There is also such a thing as a 'guest totem/guide' they seemingly come out of no-where to teach us a leason then disapear off again. for me this has been a seal, who taught me that i have to learn to execpt/ learn to live in the darkness.
As my very good friend harakhti has already said, what these animals/ people mean, mostly depend on were your soul is from. i myself believe i am from a inuit origin, yet in this life i'm british.
When meditating or in such a state that they feel free to come to you, don't just remmber what you see, remmber what you feel, and if you are able, don't be afriad to ask them questions. they may not give you an answer?! but maybe they will!. i find righting any experiance down helps me figure my criptic measage out.
Also don't forget that somtimes your guide will visit you just for hell of it! they are your friends and they love you (and can get very lonely), somtimes they may just want to play, or sit with you. (my hare guide loves to sit with me, and be stroked)
there is no black and white answer here, get to know them they way you feel is best!
