Agnostic
A term for someone who believes in the possible existence of the ‘divine’,
be it Spiritual Energy, Creational Force or in the existence of a God (or Gods),
but holds no solid beliefs, or are unsure.
Anthro
From the Greek word ‘Anthropos’ meaning ‘Human’.
Anthrocephaly (Anthrocephalic)
Greek, meaning 'Human-Headed', refers to Otherkin with an animal
bodied appearance in posession of a human head. Such as a Sphinx.
Anthropomorph (Anthropomorphic).
A term coined by those whose animal forms have taken on/possess physical human traits,
Such as walking upright, performing human tasks and wearing clothes.
From the Greek terms Anthropos ‘Human’ and Morphous to have the ‘shape’ or ‘structure’.
(Also used to describe the act of giving inanimate objects or animals
human qualities.)
Anthro artist
A term used to describe someone who enjoys drawing Anthropomorphic Characters
For artistic use, Role-playing Characters, or ‘Fursona’s’.
Astral Travel
The term for a soul having the ability to 'travel' outside the body.
Whether attained through sleep, or through meditation/yoga etc.
Some people claim to have used Astral Travel to obtain their Therian
Names, or info about what their Therio/Kintype is.
Atheist
The term for someone who does not believe in any Gods. Does not
believe in the possibility of an afterlife, in Reincarnation or any other spirituality.
There is argument to suggest that 'Atheists may have certain beliefs',
but opposingly that this is 'contradictory in nature to [real] Atheism'.
Clinical Lycanthropy
The psychiatric condition commonly referred to as 'Werewolfism', and those considered to be ‘Werewolves’.
There are no set symptoms for CL, but known symptoms can range from minor
animalistic behaviour, to moments of delusion, lucidity, animalistic violence,
loss of rationality, and unexplained memory loss.
'Lycanthropy' is largely a loose term as not all animal 'displays' are
'wolf' based, sufferers have been known to display a variety of animal traits.
Daemon Companion
Daemons are considered (in this instance) to be the 'creature' part of the human soul,
that exists in separation to their main soul.
This creature, usually an animal, can manifest physical shape within, or outside of, the persons
body. It exists alongside its human counterpart as though a 'pet', 'companion' or ‘guide’
Some people consider Daemons to be nothing more than Guides or Totems.
Daemon(2)
In this instance, a Daemon is considered to be the 'physical appearance’ of your conscience,
or Personality. Or other human qualities manifested in animal or beast form.
Some believe everyone has a Daemon.
Furry/Furries
Furries are people who, like Anthro artists, take an interest in human-like
animals, but take on these Characters as their alternatives. Generally for amusement,
Role Play, or Fetish purposes.
These people also have conventions where they can dress up as the Character.
Fursona
Meaning Furry-Persona, is the profile of a Furry’s Character.
These usually display in text or picture form and include stats of the Character, markings, abilities
age, race and so on.
Kin-Name
Your Kin name doesn't necessarily belong to your current self, but to your
Therian/Otherkin self.
Not everyone has a name for their animal soul, but it is sometimes easier to 'design' one
that you are happy with, so that it is easier to discuss your animal/being self.
An issue that lies within naming your animal/being is the danger of
attributing certain aspects of yourself under one name or the other (especially during times of stress/trauma).
These could possibly lead to personality or coping issues.
Kin-Type (Kintype)
The type of Kin that you are, OR the main form that you take.
Can be used for Therian and Otherkin.
Monotheist
A Term for someone who believes in one single God.
Christian, Muslim and Catholic fall into this category.
Multiple System
Someone who believes they are a Host to multiple 'Souls' that are independent individuals.
Some 'Souls' can come and go at will, and some are known to have these 'Souls' Front or
Surface to take temporary control of the Host. Another name for this is 'Walk-In'.
New Soul
A New Soul is an animal or person whose energy (soul) has been nothing with consciousness previously,
so is 'fresh' and 'new' with no retaining memories of other lives.
Otherkin
These are often exactly the same as Therianthropes but refer to the soul or spirit being classified
a 'Mythical' being, rather than an Earthly animal. Such animals include Dragons, Unicorns,
Vampires, Minotaurs, Sphinxes, Gryphons, Fae, Angels etc.
Polytheist
Someone who believes in the existence of Many Gods, though does not necessarily follow
any of them, or follows a variety.
Polytheists are usually accepting of most Faiths and can adopt many Gods from different
past and present cultures.
Shapeshifter / Poly Form
In this instance, a term for people whose animal spirit has multiple forms, or who believe
they could shift into multiple forms in previous lives elsewhere, on Astral planes, or when Meditating.
Poly-form is also used for this, Poly (or Poli) Greek word meaning 'many' therefore reads many-form.
Spirit Guides
A spiritual force that may or may not have substantial form, that precedes to 'watch over' and guide/aid
a human during moments of life. Guides usually have a close connection to their charges, and some
people feel their presence constantly, whilst others may never feel the contact of theirs.
Guides Vary from person to person and can appear as anything.
Some also come and go at will.
Therianthrope (Therian, Thirianthropos)
The word itself consisting of two words, 'Theri' from the Greek word ‘Thirio’ meaning ‘Beast’
and ‘Anthropo’ meaning ‘Man’ or ‘Human’.
A person with a connection to (or an affinity with) an Earthly animal.
For example, a person who believes he/she has an animal soul/spirit or mentality of an animal
that lives, or has lived, on Earth.
Theri-Type (Theritype)
The type of Animal that you are.
Only used for Therian Kin, animals currently on/extinct from Earth.
Theriocephaly (Theriocephalite)
From the Greek words Thiri ‘Beast’ and Ceph ‘Head’.
A term for a person whose Otherkin form is predominantly human but animal headed.
These beings may also possess wings and/or tail, but appendages remain moderately human.
Totems, Totem Animals
Totems are like the 'Zodiac star-signs' that give image and understanding to your personality.
Some believe all people are born under specific Totems, and that understanding your Totem Animal
can grant you better insight into yourself.
Walk-in Kin
A person who believes they harbour more than one ‘soul’ and that these ‘souls’ are separate
entities to themselves. Some Walk-ins claim that their alternates can come and go at will, and
possess different personalities, opinions and desires to each other and to the host.
Also referred to as Multiple System Kin.
Werewolves/Lycans/Loup Garou
There is much debate about what a Werewolf actually is. Some believe ‘Werewolf’ can be
used as an alternative term for wolf Therianthropes or Anthropomorphic wolves.
Others suggest that the term ‘Werewolf’ should only apply to those suffering the psychological
traits of Clinical Lycanthropy. Most (if not all) recorded cases of Werewolfism have involved
violent crimes (see Clinical Lycanthropy).
YIFF
This is a term used for the sexual displays of Anthro art and Furry Characters.
YIFF (in art form) is often cartoon-like and contains pornographic and explicit images of
Anthropomorphic Characters displaying genitals or fornicating.
YIFF also exists in Role Play, and can (but does not always) extend into the public eye
by way of ‘Furry Conventions’.
Yiff is not an openly discussed topic, and is frowned upon in many Serious Kin Communities.
