I've been well aware that I have multiple kin types for some time now. When I started reading into a thread on shapeshifters, I started questioning whether I was or wasn't just a therian. For starters, my kin types tend to bubble to the surface at the moments when they are needed. Shapeshifters describe this as a 'mask' if I remember right. Being new and obviously not as educated as I'd like to be on this topic, I'm asking for advice on this.
General things: - I have two dominant kin types - One is for social situations and one seems to be for danger and anger - There's a third which rarely shows up (don't know if that is relevant) - They are all for extreme emotions, alone I'm oddly neutral
Old things: - As a kid I was convinced I was a werewolf (pretty common, I know)
Anyway, just sorta hoping someone who knows what they're talking about could give me a hand. Reading up on it only helped so much.

Well, 'mask' is an interchangeable term. Like most concepts regarding certain aspects of a spiritual identification. Or one not grounded 100% in science. So, you could call it a mask, face, aspect, form, etc. Whatever you happen to fancy. The most used and or dominant term regarding subjects like this doesn't mean it's the only one that's correct or used.
I'm curios how long you've been experiencing this. And if you are able to manifest these different aspects of you at will, if you tried. If you haven't it might be a fun little experiment for you. It's curious how you associate the 'kintypes' with different scenarios. Sure, this is common with those that are classified as shapeshifters or polyform, but have you also considered you just might have two kintypes by themselves? There are some that identify as two separate animals and still call themselves therian.
And, of course, have you considered cameo shifting?

There are some that identify as two separate animals and still call themselves therian. And, of course, have you considered cameo shifting? Well, I just had to Google cameo shifting and I don't think so. It's been a good few months now and it doesn't seem like a cameo shift. I have had wings happen a few times, huge ones that are dragon-like, and that seems to be a cameo shift. When it means nothing and disappears quickly. As for making it happen at will, it's actually sort of difficult. Being neutral is easy, but making myself be anything else just doesn't work like it should. In an attempt to explain it, it's like I know it's there, but it will only surface if I need it? If that makes any sense. I've been experiencing this more and more over the last year. I'd like to say it's just a coping mechanism for extreme emotion since that makes some sense. And for two separate kin types, sure they may be separate, but one isn't exactly an animal plus I seem to get and lose types randomly. Not like I have cameo shifts and just jump on the bandwagon, it's like there will be an entity for a situation that will just fade away. I don't post about these on my journal because they rarely stick around long enough. It's used once or twice then discarded. For example: there was a flighty creature that's just gone now. This is messy but I hope you sorta understand.

I understand, DarkCove. No need to worry there. If you're seriously considering shapeshifting, there's only really one way you can tell if it's true or not. And that's through the test of time. Meditation, practices, etc. Meditation, of course, to hone your senses and work through this time of uncertainty. The practice would be to see if you can manifest these forms at will, or manifest new ones at will. This would take some time and effort, but I'm sure you could accomplish it.
