so anyone can have astral shift(or phantom, but SJW kins find it is offensive to amputees to use phantom shift for body parts a human never had. to whinge about "my wings hurt" to someone who lost an arm in a lumberyard accident is poor taste, like telling someone you know their greif and compaire the death of your favorite character, to being the same thing as their spouce dying)
so self hypnosis and such
but, i guess it depends on where you are, in kin bords to talk of shifts, more kid friendly ones will most likly put a ban on talking about "other bodyparts" for you here, for the transkin(I guess that is what I will call a "buck in the body of a human female", do you ever feel astral/phantom genetalia? if one feels the ears, antlers, tail and lack of upper incisors. why not?
and how would non kin hypnotise themself for very real parts?
humans mostly don't know what it would feel like to have wings, horns, trunks, beaks, giant reptile tails. so why , a body female with "male parts"? or for a guy, to suddenly feel a lack of his genetalia in a replacement of a hummingbird coclaca if his body is mind over mattering a female bird, or if the body is a guy and "inhabitated by female humming bird"

So, I don't even really know where to begin on this one. You'll have to excuse my lack of a filter.. or tact, because frankly I don't have anything of the sort right now. Having been awake for how long, was it? Nearing thirty hours.
It sounds like you spend a lot of time on tumblr. A lot. And I'll go ahead and be very frank in saying that Tumblr is a special place. A very special place indeed, because if those people acted like they do outside of tumblr, they wouldn't make it very far in the real world. Tumblr is a place where anyone with a radical view is praised, and those with rational thought and logic using 'super powers' (these days) are shunned. The kin community is drastically different outside of the tumblr community itself, so don't expect other places to be so hard pressed on those things. The funny thing about tumblr, is it's where most of the over sensitive people, who would just be told to get over it in real life, congregate to express their narrow-minded views and scream wildly, without any sort of rational thought (or intelligent, even) about how their soft skin should be protected. That porcelain heart can't ever break, just because they say so.
Rant over, you don't have to worry about asking questions here. No one is going to be openly offended by a widely used term, that has literally nothing to do with the forced applied subject, and you're free to talk about it as you will.
Yes, anyone can have a cameo shift. I believe that's what they're called. Non-kin have them all the time, and have had them for ages. They're definitely a thing. And it doesn't quite fall into the self hypnosis category, either. While something might be induced purely by thought, hypnosis is an actual separate state in which the individual is going through so and so. We don't 'hypnotize' ourselves to experience our shifts. In fact, I know a lot of people who have shifts that are entirely random, and unwelcome. They don't want them. And while it's my personal view that phantom shifts do have a lot to do with the mind itself, there's also a good bit of gray area in that regard, too. For we can't know everything.
Personally, I don't experience phantom shifts.
But you raise a decent question that should not be ignored. Regardless of if it's ToS appropriate (I don't see why it's not in the way it's been asked). That's a perfectly logical question. Why not? It's certainly within the realm of possibility. But I think that would be a rather personal matter to the individual who experiences that (Or has). Therefore it's probably not a topic that's talked about openly. But I think that would have to have some certain factors in play, for one to experience that. For a lot of us, our identities aren't sexual. For some, our sexual preferences do affect the way we identify, but our identifies themselves are NOT sexual in nature. And they are NOT intended to be. We're not furries. It's possible, but I haven't had such an experience. And cannot comment any futher on the subject. (I also don't experience varying gender identities with my kintype, although, some do)
And you're right. Humans wouldn't know what any of that feels like. The best we have are our assumptions. Based on our perceptions, heavily crafted and cultivated by research, deep thought, and application of said acquired information in that regard. We can only ever assume, and that's as far as we'll ever get. Each person's experience is entirely unique. Just as said person is themselves, as an individual.
Sorry if this didn't answer your question's directly. I'm rather tired ~.~.

Chickensmoothie has some people who question using the Astral/phantom limb thing, but those who worry did get it from tumblr, where softies teach You how to care and be offended on Behalf of all.
How often do men have ovaries shift and why would anyone who dosen't kniw " kin is a thing" have shift outside of " everyone has body dysphoric disorder" and the extent ( as I had seen some kin say theirs affects Space around them, such as tails being caught in doors.
If some peoples experances is not sexual, why place much value on "being a female dragon" or " make butterfly"'? Do animals have gender indentides? Or do they not want to say " sometimes my stallion shifts get annoying, if you know what I mean". Or worry about going into heat. Or for the spiritual kin who have important feelings on astral worlds, the ones who say they have mates there and babies. If someone knows their one side is male, and their body not, I assume they are going to, time to time feel like they have the genetalia, or if not, maybe if a female species with mammeries elsewhere, they are going to feel phantom body parts (like a dairy breed cow therianthrope might feel those udders? Even if not lactating?)
And what are the times mundanes would? Some guy is just jet skiing and suddenly feels cow udders, or a woman feeling like she has a snakes "naughty bits" without being a snake in human body that is spilling over the cup.
And for people who want to feel things, if the meditative musings, of how real it could be.

Nobody whines about hurting phantom limbs. Haha. To trivialize our experiences by comparing them to other things is just flat out stupid. One can't compare experiences when they are two very different things. It's just like saying another group can't possibly experience dysphoria because transgender people do and "it's offensive to trans individuals"... because dysphoria is a word that totally only belongs to the trans community and dysphoria is totally only just experienced by trans individuals. It's the same for phantom limbs. Two groups can experience the same thing.
I play CS but I stay away from the forums just because of that. Other than the fact that, just like Tumblr, the CS kin community just sucks. The Tumblr kin community is the worst in my opinion, by far. Because none of them do research outside of tumblr and think an identity is a connection, hence all of the moonkin and fruitkin and so on.
I don't think many men have "phantom ovaries" per se, but I've heard of instances occurring where men (and even women) will have "sympathy cramps" when around someone on their period experiencing actual cramps. I have, however, heard of men experiencing phantom female genitals. In my case, I regularly experience phantom canine male genitals. However, I am not trans. To be honest someone having a kintype which is a separate gender from them is odd to me since your kintype is you, it's a part of your identity and what you identify as. So I'd think if someone identified as a male, their kintype would be male, since it is them... and vice versa.
I haven't heard much of non-kin people experiencing cameo shifts but I am sure it happens.
It's easy to trick yourself into feeling, seeing, or hearing things.
All that being said, I am not able to tell which opinions you hold from which you detest. Could you please clarify that, for me? Such as calling phantom limbs astral limbs, etc.
Personally calling phantom limbs "astral limbs" as not to offend people who have lost their real human limbs is a bit ludicrous to me. For more than one reason. For one, as stated above, more than one group can experience something as terms aren't usually group-exclusive. For two, it would make discerning between actual astral shifts from "astral limbs"- this is shown even in your title, when you said "a-shift". For three, not all therianthropes and otherkin identify spiritully- not all of them believe in "astral" things, such as I. So from a psychological point of view, it just makes much more sense to say "phantom", as that is exactly what they are- limbs that can be felt to the person but which are not really there.

I agree with everything @shifter has said. But have some questions of my own, and some more of my own opinion on the subject.
While some kin may complain of their phantom limbs being uncomfortable, I don't think I've outright heard of anyone saying they 'hurt'. It would be impossible, considering that the limbs themselves are an extension of the mind. Any discomfort, in fact, is the same of that. Ax extension of one's mind, and the 'expectation' that the limb would be uncomfortable in the area. Which in no way invalidates the experiences of those who experience phantom limbs, of course. It's in MY personal opinion.
I agree with @shifter once more in that one's identity (kintype) is generally expressed the same as they express themselves, gender wise. And to have a varying gender would implicate that it might be separate from themselves. And I personally think it's very 'tumblr' to even be concerned about it. No, animals don't experience the world in the way they do. They do not have 'identifies' in terms of their sex. They are one of three, male, female, or asexual (Or hermaphrodites). And they move on in this world and reproduce as needed, to ensure the continuation of the species. Humans are the only mammal that question their 'gender'. While I don't think it's completely out of the realm of possibility that (seeing as nothing is impossible, just highly improbable) an animal might 'feel' disconnected with themselves in terms of that.. that's a whole other field. Which would be long and boring about how deep their sense of self awareness is, and the personal views on the subject would hinder any real discussion about it.
'Mundane'? What? We're no different from the next person. We're not better. We're not worse. Don't refer to non-kin that way, lol.

I think it's best not to take anything a sjw has to say very seriously on its own. I dont care who they are. Simply put i wouldn't go runnin my mouth to certain people regardless of my reasons because it's not decent behaviour towards that specific person. There are people who pit their life experiences against other's for the need to feel more legitimate and there are people who realize that not one of us can do so with a right mind and without a lack of basic self respect. Because. We're all. Different. (and that makes us all the same.) Its what binds us together. Sjw's spit in the eye of that bond by attacking anyone who doesn't validate them. We all have different life experiences and no matter why human beings desire inside-the-premade-box-definitions to ease their way in life it won't make one bit of difference to the truth. sjw's are scared and emotionally driven to feel their way through whatever subject they are discussing. A lack of perspective the lot of em. My take on phantom limbs is that they are real to the individual person because of that persons brain. The brain remembers and in some cases the brain believes it has or has had a limb or body part where there is none. (this may be the case made for why therians are delusional since we are in human bodies and there has not been any work done to see what's caused the feeling of missing limbs like there has been with the obvious missing limbs) Aching can in fact happen depending on how strong the mental connection is. Its a scientific fact. Id be interested in seeing if when fitted with a prosthetic limb a therian could make it work over time like with humans who have lost a limb.

I think people who use tumblr and want to be a good person, see absurdity and go " that is what it means to be good and not hurt feelings!" And just act it to be trendy, and they don't really mean it, when they look like they stand up to any little injustices, they fear being labeled troll or mean so much, or perhaps to go " I am kin to Kappa-Dr.Strange-the meteor from FF 7-Kefka Palozza-Tapeworm-Plushie doll of Ebola from Giant Microbes and I am still such a kind person". I don't think that mean it, some. Asking people to use Astral and not Phantom, I just view some kind of dog whereing pink cloths seeking in a baby voice about how wrong it is, n a " if you can't say something nice"
There are a lot if kin things that bother me, like when some want rights, or say they are oppressed, maybe you guys are, but the ones that behave poorly are the ones that will bring negative attention to the nature of existing, like how we can't tell a parent " do something your kid is being a brat" because, said kid might have autism. Whinging " ppl r mean 2 me because I bear my fangs and growl and snap, I can't help when I shift, and I don't have a mental illness, respect me"
Or kin who might be " I know what it's like to be trans, I am an ampherite in a human body, I totes can relate"
I wonder how far society can go with that? If anyone who is not in controll should behave poorly, just to bring awareness into the news, and all the bullying they get. " ppl told me to die in a hole cuz I'm a tiger and can't stop having tiger urges"
I myself just joke with myself about being demonkin, but I'm not really going to write easy on how it is raceist to make them bad in media, but I do wonder if an imp could be a good guy, but I" not growing to cry to death demanding justice for my people(that too, kin who refer to their kindle as their people, " I am impalakin, please stop killing my people"

***warning, this reply may be a bit too detailed about genitalia question and my sexuality*** About the "other body parts" thing, as a male I remember being able to feel a candid "male genitalia sheath" and sometimes even the pointy knotted penis of a wolf or fox. I've also experienced human female genitalia, both between the legs and chest witch I find quite odd but is kinda a fetish of mine so it works out in the end. I think I get the human female "shifts" (if you can even still call them that) because I've gotten really good at controlling phantom shifts; I wanted female "parts" to satisfy my fetish so my brain was like "ok, here you go!"
