Ok so I am not even a member to this forum so this might be covered in a thread somewhere else that I can't see. Anyway I was just curious if there was any other therian who astral travels, dreamshifts, has spirit guides, ect. How did you completely identify what your theriotype was? Its hard because although I myself identify with an animal and shift a lot, I can also identify with many things and shift in their mindset. With all the totems and spirit guide type things its hard to use journeying or dreams to figure out what you are. Also how can one balance out therian and shamanic type qualities. I have found that although both can carry a sort of spiritual affinity (depending on the therian shift) and work very well together, a lot of times one inhibits the other. Also it seems that having a shift or experience in one can lead to activity in the other. In the end its just all really strange and I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with this sort of thing. Although I had always felt like an animal (particularly a wolf) and have had some sort of spiritual qualities as far as communicating with spirit guides and such (even as a young christian in a church that spoke against it and as an atheist) the shaman side kind of was an accident. It just started happening. Actually throughout highschool I kind of refused everything and it caused a lot of problems for me. So Im not very knowledgeable about either. Any insight will help thanks guys!

Our multiple system are shamanic practitioners and animists. Shamanic journeying, Honoring and working with spirits, taking part in rituals, and the like are part of regular life for us.
I know my species identity because I identify as nonhuman and instead identify as a cheetah-like feline, have constant phantom body which matches how I identify as, having a mindset and instincts I relate to being feline, and the like.
Our system members never had any issue with discerning totemistic and shamanic experiences from therianthropic ones actually. Because therianthropy is about one’s self identity while totems and spirit guides are external. It never posed an issue. Therianthropy isn’t identifying with a nonhuman animal, its identifying as a nonhuman animal. Plus, for every one of us we naturally took on the shape we felt best fit how we saw ourselves journeying anyway (so proper species, gender, etc) rather than a foreign form.
Our therianthropy and animality has never posed an issue with our spirituality. Our identity is one thing, our spirituality is another.

If I had to take a guess its something between feline and canine. I just assumed I was confused and saw myself wrong. Also to say I am shamanic is a stretch, as I am not adept in any practice. I'm just subjected to its influence per say; have the opportunity if I chose to follow that path. Think of it more like a neoshaman for now... To be honest most of the conflict between the two is probably caused by myself. I literally tried to force myself to be atheist even though I was always inclined to animistic beliefs. I was completely fine being a therian too, I just never knew that it was a thing. I always told people that I felt more like an animal than a person. Its funny people thought I was wise instead of crazy. I guess whenever I got older and started looking into it more I literally became scared of myself and started to shove everything down. I labelled myself crazy, which for all I know that could be true... Starting college and figuring out that I don't want to live my life not accepting what I am. Honestly I was the only person who had a problem with it anyway. Even my christian mom and dad are completely accepting and what few people I told thought it was unique or even said "it makes sense now". I truly am my own worst enemy I guess ... But whatever enough backstory. I think I need to work a little more on honoring spirit guides, I feel like I could have been a little bratty throughout this whole self discovery/acceptance ordeal. Its funny how most of my spirit guides are normal animals, but I am kind of like a mixed entity or soul. Is this normal? Also sometimes I journey like my human physical form with my phantom limbs represented by almost shadowy arua, while other times I journey as what I actually identify with in my soul. Ill even switch around form within a single journey, often when transitioning through different states (I believe by an actually practical term these are the lower and upper worlds). Is that normal? Also I have a phantom limb experience of where wings should be on my back but not actually having them. Whats up with that? Possibly the most important question of all that could have spared me a lot of trouble in the beggining, is there a normal baseline? Is there a rule or guideline that I should follow with any of this or just let it happen. Sorry for all the questions and such, I am very new to all of this and I'm just trying to sketch it out and learn a bit... thanks for the help btw

I have a lot of shamanic experiences, although i don't like to identify as a shaman. I do like to strengthen the things i can do and try to do more things. Perhaps we could message each other about our experiences?
