So, I've had this need for quite a long time that I need to chew something. I usually chew this deer antler I have (it's clean, don't worry), but I have a feeling one day I'll accidentally poke my eye out with it or something like that. Yesterday I tried chewing a largeish rubber ball I found, but that just broke as soon as I bit down.
I have been contemplating going out and buying a rubber dog chew, but I don't want my parents to know about it. They know I'm an otherkin and all, but they were a bit unsure when I bought my tail, so I don't want to see their reactions if I ask them if I can get a dog chew.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I could use to chew on? I don't have a dog, so I can't use that as an excuse to get a chew toy, by the way. If not, any ideas on how I could go out and get it, then sneak it in without my parents knowing?
It's probably a stupid stereotypical question, but at least it's a legitimate one.

I'd be careful about chewing on antler. Over time that will wear down your teeth and lead to a not so pleasant dentist visit. I'd try something like beef jerky. Looks like your snacking, but you're also chewing.

Good idea, but one problem: I don't like jerky. Also the only jerky we've got is like a year old and no one ever eats it.

Have you tried not beef jerky? Like turkey jerky, chicken jerky, etc.?
EDIT: What about something like Twizzlers?

Pen caps work fine for me. I'll have to try jerky though! I always get the dollar pens, munch on the caps during class and what not and use the pen for notes. 2 uses!

I chew on my shirt collar a lot, though you can't really chew aggressively on it since it'll ruin the collar. >_>

I highly suggest candy sticks or those beef sticks you can buy at a corner store. The beef sticks could help with meat cravings, if you have any, and candy sticks are hard enough to give you the satisfaction of chewing and gnawing. I also suggest apple slices or un-chopped carrots as those are both healthy and munchable. I especially like to chew carrots because they remind me of bones.. As @lithillian said, chewing on shirts works wonders as well. Just buy an old t-shirt from Goodwill or something and designate it as your "chewing shirt".
I would stay away from actual bones because they can damage your teeth pretty bad, can be very dirty, and I would imagine that they wouldn't be tasty; and I suggest you stay the heck away from rawhide. Those are NOT good for humans!

I eat jerky a lot to be honest. I used jerky to stop chewing on my nails. Before my nails I didn't really chew on anything and it drove me crazy >.> so beef jerky is my top choice. I personally don't know what else besides tough candy though if you don't like it.

I LOVE jerky--any kind works for me and I've tried a couple different ones. I absolutely love chewing on things, but it's mostly meat nowadays (I like my steak bleeding because it's incredibly chewy and delicious). I used to chew on pens and pencils when I was younger. Toothpicks and sticks are yummy too. Chewing on something like meat really calms me down and totally satisfies me.

Seraphyna I don't like jerky in general, and I don't think we can get twizzlers in england I know I'm being kinda picky, but I prefer stuff that has a rubbery texture, and is hard to chew. Also, with the shirt idea, I would try it, but within a day it would covered in cat hair, so it's not too hygienic (says the person who chews antler)

Two problems with that: 1. I don't trust buying food online unless its from tescos or something like that 2. My parents would know

Twizzlers are just twisted licorice. You can probably find something comparable over there

Have you had a jawbreaker? I'm sure you can manage to chew on that for days or even weeks if you can find one.

But parents?.. are you not allowed to have many sweets? If so, bummer dude.

Yeah, I can have sweets. But they would ask why I'm buying sweets online rather than going to town, and they're a bit wary of otherkin stuff.

Well, I know some people with oral fixations will chew on toothpicks, and the plastic ones would last longer (with less splintering). That's the least suspicious, non-fattening/teeth rotting solution I can think of.

I got a two pack of plastic chew bones and split it with my dog fun stuff. I say jerky, be careful of your salt intake though. Looking into making your own might be a good idea

We know that there are toys, rings, etc which are for people of any age who feel a need to fidget with their fingers. (We know they exist because we've thought of buy one because of impulses many of us have.) We think they even make special toys or whatnot for children who have chewing impulses. Maybe stuff like that would be useful for those who have such impulses.
We don't recommend at all using objects designed for dogs, etc in mind due to things like manufacturing having different standards for what is safe for things to be made of, differences in jaw strength, that most companies aren't as concerned with warn down teeth in animals as they are humans, etc.
So there is one possible opinion.

Have you looked up teething/sensory chew necklaces? They're necklaces but they're made with, say, a chewable pendant instead of a stone one or chewable beads. We have one ourself for sensory reasons and they're really great and pretty durable too. Not to mention than you can find a whole load which look pretty much like normal necklaces which should deter any suspicion your parents may have! You can also get similar things in the form of bracelets or pencil tops which may also work well for your situation. ~Selkey
